Mother's Day!!!

My mom is my best friend. I can tell her anything and I know she will be there to listen and give good advice. When I come home from school some weekends, it’s total mom daughter time. We get our nails done, go shopping, eat out, and watch T.V. the whole time. I don’t know what I would do without my mom, so Mother’s Day in my family is really important. My dad, brother and I get up super early in the morning and cook her breakfast in bed. While she’s eating we exchange cards and be her slaves for the rest of the day. My family is not into gifts, but I know a lot of people are, so here are great gift ideas to get and make. First, is this really cool stain glass card. Open this card in the light and it looks like a stain glass window. You’ll need: black construction paper, tissue paper on various colors, craft knife, double sided padded tape, scissors, pencil and glue stick.

How to make it: Step 1: MAKING THE CARD 1. Trace and cut out stained glass window patterns with colored construction paper. 2. Cut out the inside of window shapes using a craft knife. 3. Glue down various colors of tissue paper over the window cut outs on the inside front of the card. Step 2: MAKING THE BUTTERFLY 1. Trace and cut out butterfly patterns onto construction paper. 2. Cut out all the shapes on butterfly wings and head using a craft knife. 3. Glue various colors of tissue paper over the cut out shapes on the "wrong" side of the butterfly. 4. Cut out antennas from black construction paper and then glue antennas on back of butterfly's head. 5. Slightly bend butterfly's wings forward. 6. Place double-sided padded tape on back of butterfly. 7. Place butterfly on the front center of card. My tip is to use metallic marker when writing the note inside. It adds to the card and is easily readable. After you make the perfect card, it’s time for a fun homemade gift that’s fun, simple and easy to make. I’ll teach you how to make a pasta heart plate for mom.

You’ll need a colorful disposable plate, white craft glue, dried macaroni noodles, and yellow and green split peas. How to make it: 1.Use white craft glue to draw a heart shape on the plate. (See photo.) 2. Place macaroni shapes onto the white craft glue heart. (See photo.) 3. Use white craft glue to write "mom" in the center of the heart. Place flat side of split peas onto the craft glue, using yellow peas for both letter "m's" and green for the "o." And if you want to cook your mom breakfast in bed, here’s the recipe to what my family made, egg muffin melts.

Ingredients 2 English muffins, split 1 tbsp. (15 mL) butter 4 eggs 2 tbsp. (30 mL) milk 1/2 tsp. (2 mL) salt 4 slices deli ham or turkey 1/2 cup (125 mL) shredded cheddar or Swiss cheese paprika for garnish How to make: 1. Toast English muffins until golden brown. 2. Melt the butter in a medium skillet over medium heat. Beat the eggs with the milk and salt, then pour into the skillet and cook, stirring, until softly scrambled. Remove from heat. 3. Place a slice of ham or turkey on each English muffin half. Top with scrambled eggs -- dividing equally among the four halves. Sprinkle with shredded cheese, then dust lightly with paprika. 4. Arrange on a baking sheet and place under the broiler for just a minute or two -- until the cheese is melted and bubbly. Serve immediately. So there you have it. Fun easy things to do for your mom that she will enjoy. I guarantee she will appreciate every last bit of it. Enjoy mothers day!!!!

Hofstra Relay for Life 2012

“I relay for my mom,” said Zach Dane, senior and event co-chair for Hofstra University’s Relay for Life 2012. Dane lost his mother to lung cancer that eventually spread when he was in seventh grade. “She is the reason that I am doing everything that I can to promote a cancer-free world. My friends know this and support me 110% before Relay and during the event itself.” Hofstra University held the event on the intramural fields last Saturday to celebrate the fifth anniversary of the American Cancer Society Relay For Life at the school. Last year, Hofstra raised $90,000 for the American Cancer Society. This year’s fundraising goal was to surpass that and they did. The 2012 Relay for Life raised over $104,000. There are three main components to every Relay for Life event. Celebrate, Remember and Fight Back. The event starts off with the Survivors Lap, which is an inspirational time where survivors run around a track and everyone cheers to celebrate their victories over battling cancer. This means the most to the survivors, because it shows how more lives are being saved each year. The most memorable moment about this night is when it gets dark out and everyone remembers those who have passed from cancer in the Luminara Ceremony. Candles are lit inside bags filled with sand, and one having a name of a person touched by cancer. It is a very emotional ceremony and brought tears to my eyes. The fight back ceremony is where everyone makes a personal commitment to save lives by pledging to do something simple. The point is if you take action, you are personally taking steps to save lives. There were 104 teams and the top teams were, The Science Alliance raising 6,850 dollars, Entertainment Unlimited raising 5,629 dollars, and Katie’s friends raising 5,916 dollars. Relay for Life originated in Tacoma, Washington. In the mid-1980s, Dr. Gordy Klatt, a Tacoma colorectal surgeon, wanted to increase the income of his local American Cancer Society office and to show support for all of his patients who had battled cancer. He decided to personally raise money for the fight by doing something he enjoyed, which was running marathons. In May 1985, Dr. Klatt spent 24 hours circling the track at Baker Stadium at the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma. He ran for more than 83 miles. That first year, nearly 300 of Dr. Klatt’s friends, family, and patients watched as he ran and walked the course. Throughout the night, friends donated $25 to run or walk with Dr. Klatt for 30 minutes. His efforts raised $27,000 to fight cancer. After that other people wanted to join in on the fight. Before you knew it, it was a widespread marathon that reached every community, high school and college across the globe.

Spring Break to Miami

For my spring break senior year, I went to Miami with my friends. We stayed right on the strip at The Shelborne Hotel. Our pool was incredible and so relaxing. Every night we went to a different place to eat dinner and then out on the town. I couldn't have asked for a better group of girls to go on this trip with me. I will never forget the memories we shared and I hope to go back to Miami soon!!!

Jackie Bass was born July 22nd, 1990. She grew up in Atlantic Beach, Long Island and attended Lawrence High School. There she was chosen by her peers to become student government president. She was also Junior class president, on honor roll, in National honors Society and Italian Honors Society. Not only was she skilled academically, but also physically. Jackie was apart of her school's volleyball and softball team. Her greatest memory of high school is hanging out with her close group of friends. She wouldn't have made it through high school with out them. She reminisces on times when they would hang out at each others house and do absolutely nothing, but have so much fun. After high school, Jackie attended Hofstra University majoring in Speech Language and Hearing Sciences and a minor in Russian. As an extracurricular activity, Jackie joined Sigma Delta Tau Sorority. She never thought her college friends would match up to her high school ones, but by joining a sorority they did. After joining Jackie became Vice President, which oversees all general board positions. Jackie excelled in her position and brought the sorority out of the slump it was currently in. When asked what her favorite memory is so far in her life, Jackie said her trips to St. Martin. She has been going there now for almost 20 years, which is practically her whole life. She explains its her home away from home and a chance to get away and relax. She also talks about meeting her boyfriend Anthony and all her memories with her family. As she is about to graduate college, Jackie hopes to get into grad school and eventually become a speech pathologist.

Vanessa Minnillo Pregnant!

 That's right! Its officially confirmed that Nick Lachey and wife Vanessa Minnillo are expecting their first child in late summer/early fall. Nick Lachey dropped the news this morning on "Live! with Kelly," while he co-hosted. "This is the one thing that more then any other I've looked forward to and its overwhelming," gushed the dad to be. She is now 12 weeks along and the couple couldn't be more happier!

Vanessa had been on the show in early January and after took a pregnancy test in New York after she was done taping. He explained that she didn't feel herself and was having cramps and heavy back pain.  "I'm here to tell you the stage here is a very fertile place," Nick said on the show. There had been speculation of them having a child back when they vacationed in Mexico. Reporters had said she was showing a bump in her bathing suit. They plan to learn the sex of the baby and Nick was even going over possible names on the show. "If it's a girl, I think I might like Sophia. If it's a boy, Im not sure," said Lachey. He did add that he always liked the name Colin John, so people could call him C.J. for short. Vanessa is craving a lot of Mexican food, especially burritos. Nick said on the show, "If you could only imagine what our house smells like these days." The cutest part of the show was when Nick was telling Kelly Rippa that he will do anything to care to her needs. What a great hubby!

 The couple met on the set of Nick's "Whats left of me" music video back in 2006 and married on Richard Branson's Necker Island this past July. Even though they have been married for less then a year, they have always hinted that they wanted to start a family. (Who can blame them!)  

Nick's first wife, Jessica Simpson is also due to have her first baby with fiance Eric Johnson. Coincidence??? 

What's Up With Angelina Jolie's Leg???

Angelina Jolie's right leg has been everywhere since she first stepped out on the red carpet at the 84th Annual Academy Awards last Sunday night. 


In case you missed it, Angelina was presenting the award for best adapted screenplay while she boldly placed her hands on her hips and poked her right leg out, emphasizing the high slit in her Versace gown. Jim Rash, who won the award for The Descendants then imitated the pose while accepting the award. He later told E! News "As soon as I saw her, I said 'God, if we went up there... that's a great way to own the moment,' because thats what I thought she was doing." 


It sparked so much controversy, that it even got its own Twitter account called @AngiesRightLeg, which has around 36,000 followers. The next day, people were photographing and sharing pictures of themselves with the infamous pose under hashtag #Joliening. Soon after that, a blog was created on Tumblr called 'Angelina Joile'ing' for more people to upload their pictures.  


It's even been superimposed across the web into various pictures. The users of the site Buzzfeed, has photoshopped her leg into iconic pictures like in the scene of George Washington crossing the Delaware River, The Beatles Abbey Road album cover, the Statue of Liberty, the moon landing and The Last Supper. They like to call it "legbombing."


Even talk shows got into the fun. Guliana Rancic on E!, Kelly Ripa with Lucy Liu on Live! and the hosts of "The Talk," all imitated the pose.


Not everyone thought it was all fun and games, Joan Rivers bashed the celeb saying "Angelina Jolie looked like a fool the way she posed. She took herself right out of the superstar catagory because you now realize she stands in front of a mirror to figure out what she looks like." Joan Rivers also dubbed her worst dress on her show, "Fashion Police."


No one knows how long this phenomenon will go on, but I can't help but to sit back and laugh on what society goes crazy about. What could possibly be next???   


   

Lindsay Lohan to Host Saturday Night Live Next Month

Lindsay Lohan is ready to make her big comeback by hosting Saturday Night Live. 


This will be the fourth time Lindsay is hosting the show. Back when Tina Fey was head writer, and around the same time they did Mean Girls together,  Lindsay hosted the show three times. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Lindsay has always maintained a good relationship with the shows executive producer, Lorne Michaels. Even when there were rumors back in 2005 that she was heading down the wrong path, SNL's crew seemed to be the only people supporting her. They even did a sketch to help vocalize her problems called "The Ghost Of Lindsay's Future."

Considering this will be her first time back since her career downfall, the pressure is on. Obviously very excited about the gig, Lindsay tweeted "SNL! I love @NBC !!!!!!!!" The show tweeted back "Thats right: March 3rd @lindsaylohan with musical guest Jack White!! See you then #SNL #March 3rd."

But who would want her to host a show now? Who really cares about her making a comeback after all this time? Well, according to TMZ, Lindsay was the one to reach out to the show. She's not even hosting to promote any T.V. show or movie, in fact, she was kicked out of Inferno in 2010 because of her substance abuse problems. Recently, she has put her career on hold while she handles her personal life. Her most recent project was her nude spread on Playboy's December issue, which was widely criticized. 

Hopefully SNL is the comeback Lindsay needs. I wish her luck and I can't wait to see the show. She will be alongside Jack White on March 3rd. Everyone should tune in!

Bobbi Kristina Found Getting High After Mom's Funeral!

This is a truly sad story.

Multiple sources close to Whitney Houston's family are saying that Bobbi Kristina Brown was found getting high after her mothers funeral. The 18 year old apparently slipped away from friends and family after the emotional three hour funeral in New Jersey this past Saturday. She apparently did not meet her family for brunch in Newark and made everyone panic when she also did not show up for the burial service on Sunday.

Sources are saying that with all the commotion after the funeral she couldn't handle it. Sources also say family were trying to call her cell phone, but she was not answering. According to The Daily Beast, she was also upset that her father caused an uproar at the funeral after causing a scene with seating arrangements.  A spokesperson had denied that she was getting high and claimed that she only needed time alone.

But, this is hard to believe when unfortunately, this isn't the only time this has happened. There were also reports of her getting high after she found out her superstar mother had died. There was a debate whether she should have gone to rehab or mourn with the rest of her family. And, last year the 18-year old was found snorting a suspicious white powder.

In my opinion, she was just mimicking what she had seen while growing up. If you see your parents living a certain lifestyle then it appeals to you. It must be a horrible situation for everybody, because people probably tried to save Whitney and it didn't work. And now with Bobbi Kristina the same thing is going to happen, and people might not be able to stop her either. I just hope that Bobbi Kristina gets help IMMEDIATELY if she is really abusing drugs. I understand this is an incredibly difficult time for her, but drugs are never the answer. She is in my thoughts and prayers.
